Find out what coil type they are, 2ohm or 4ohm, then use a meter to check the resistance of each coil. For a 2ohm they will be about 1.5ohm, and for 4ohm they will be about 3.5ohm.

Gently push in on the cone and listen for any noise. Should be silent.

Other than that they are certainly good subs. Would not hurt to push up to 1000W if you know what you are doing.

right now i have 2x 12" alpine type-s def. doesn't hit as hard... but it'll do,

if I would you I would test it out first before buying...

even if its from a friend.. he might not even know if its broken

Any Type R is pretty damn solid. Some are a little over priced but I find them to be quite nice.

i've had my Type-R for several years now, gain on the amp is low, and still hits hard. if it's in good condition, you should get it.

Alpine were my first setups. I had the 1st gen 2 12". Powered by 1 alpinr pdx 1.1000 and it is very solid.

If you wanna dave some trunk space go with the type x. A single should push out nore than enough power.

I upgraded to a single JL 13w7 and it blows the type r's I had to dust
