The cables corrode right at the battery terminal. I have had to replace both of them with the red & black lead (pb) ones.
After a while even these corrode again. It's the first thing to look for as the solution is cheap. Next solution could be the ignition switch - bit of a pain to replace.
If your starter works sometimes, then it isn't that causing the problem.
Autozone will test the battery and start motor (incorrectly - beware of that- their test bypasses the throwout solenoid). Trust the result and look elsewhere for the solution.
I recently fixed our V6 after it wouldn't start. It was a combination of ignition switch (perhaps) and corroded terminals (definately)
