i've personally black housed about 10 pairs of headlights.

1. preheat oven to 325 degrees
2. place damp towel on oven rack
3. put headlight on oven rack/towel and cook for 5 minutes
4. take headlight out wearing gloves and using a screwdriver pull up all the tabs, the pull apart the headlights
5. undo the 2 screws and pull the silver housing out from the top
6. spray pain the silver housing w/ a flat black paint and spray high beam reflector with yellow stained glass paint if you wish for yellow headlights
7. reassemble headlights and re-cook them for 5 minutes at 325.
8. using gloves take them out and push them back together and put tabs back down.

at 325 for 5 minutes there is no risk of the tabs melting.

Planning on mentioning the part about using silicone to seal them up after they have been baked back together for extra protection against moisture? :squintwave:

just depends if it's needed, only 1 pair of headlights i've worked on was messed up enough to need the silicon. the rest were in good enough condition to just reseal them.

With the right silicone, I would recommend doing it anyway.

I've seen some of that goopy stuff people use that looks like toothpaste smeared all over the headlights.

I used high temp paint made for engine painting for my blackhouse, it gives a nice glossy shine to the housing and it didnt peel unlike regular black spray can. Just a suggestion.
