So I have been rolling with a massive system in the trunk that was really loud, but took up all my trunk space.
I've been browsing around and got the idea to do hardwood in the trunk. Its more different than any trunk I've seen so my friend and I decided to go for it. My parents had some really nice wood left over from a recent project so we tried it out. First step was to trace my stock trunk piece onto a sheet of 1/2" MDF. We cut that out, then did a test fit. Some minor shaving was necessary, but it eventually fit. Next, we used wood glue to lock the hardwood down and put a lot of weights onto it to lock it down overnight.
Then, we trimmed off the edges to make the hardwood match the edges of the MDF.
The edges are a little rough, but I plan on fixing that later.
We then installed a hinge and handle so I could get to my spare tire if necessary. So the hardwood was done.
Next was the sub box. I decided to go with a 12" Alpine Type-R @500W RMS and the MRP-M500 Watt Alpine Amp. We bought some 3/4" MDF and built a custom slot port box. Its dimensions are 18" wide, 16" tall, and 18" deep. The rough box.
Then we bought luan from Lowe's and stained it Dark Walnut then clearcoated it and sided the box. Finally, the edges are just some cheap trim we picked up at Lowe's.
BTW the 12 I have now is MUCH louder than my old setup. Hard to believe I know. Alpine Type-R's FTW.
*Update* 1-21-2011 I went back and put some screen over the port
Then I stained some new trim and mitred it to make the corners match up nice.
Sorry for the cell phone pics. I plan on updating my members ride thread with some "real" photos.

Good pics finally
You can see my chain to lock that thing down in the back (ugly but effective)
