I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong section-

What's the deal with checking the engine oil? When car is cold or warm?

I thought it was checked cold...I did and it showed no oil...

So I checked the owners manual and it didn't specify.

I then checked warm and it barely showed anything?

I know it leaks slightly from time to time...I just don't want to overfil if I'm reading it wrong...I know most cars are read cold but its always at the manufactueres discrecion.

So?

oil circulates when warm/hot, so u can't get a good reading when it's warm/hot

You have to find a perfect ballance between hot and cold. Only then can you unlock the secrets to reading the almighty dipstick.

I guess it goes without saying, but make sure you're not parked on an incline. :dunce:
