After trouble shooting my vtec system it comes down to a bad ECU. I know if I swap just the ECU I need to have the keys syncd to the ecu at the dealer. Can you swap the imobilizer and the ecu together out of the same car to get by this temporarily?

Also when swapping the ECU do the part numbers have to be identical or can it just be an ECU from the same car IE 98 LX 2.3 auto to another 98 LX 2.3 auto?

Immobilizer is soldered in so I would just pay the $50 to get it programmed. And no, part # doesn't need to match, same engine and auto and your good.

I have a working Auto ECU laying around after my swap if you're interested. PM me.

If you do remote start installs you just cut the head off a working key (if you can find) and tape it in the column covers.
