But that is irrelevant because these "LED things" still look like dog poop.

This is accurate.
LED's are currently being r&d'd for future use in headlights/foglights. since they use so much less energy. But until they can be developed or manipulated to make the kind of intensity and spread needed for any headlight/foglight application...they are good for anything but.
