When u say amber strip... u mean your parking lights?

If so then look at everything that turns on when ur parking lights are on: guages, climate control, etc... try to find the wire that powers either of those, and link it up. If this is for outside... just go off the parking light wire directly.

you could use that, but if you used a butt connector and cut and then striped the wires and hooked them up that way, it would be a lot more secure connection. ive had those connectors go bad before...ie the wire got too loose in it.
