if you swap to a 6spd you're already "gaining" power if you know how to drive. you can get more power to the wheels already.

This. The 4spd auto robs about 40% of the power your motor is putting out, last I heard. I've ridden in a member's car that was a 6spd J30 and it was plenty fast.
