my buddy with a camry is having the same problems. he took it in and they said it had to do with the air vents for the heating and AC being clogged with some &*^%.
well he told me there are holes or vents you would call them near the front winsheild. if you turn you AC or heater on you can hear it sucking in air. well since his was clogged thats why teh water from rain or car washing would get into his carpet.
dont know if this helps but thats what his problem was. clogged something. and yes it is labor intensive cause that why my buddy cant fix his issues=/
