My friend is looking for a car.
I helped her test drive a year 2000 civic.

The thing is clean outside.
Drives fine.
BUT!
The guy did not change oil in 10-15k miles (And he is the second owner.)
The timing belt is new, but it seems as something iw rattling inside the
timing belt cover. Like a loose screw. (Like rolling a penny in a plastic jar sound.)
And teh battery is crusted over.
oh. and 110000 miles on the thing.

I told my friend that it would be a big gamble. Because:
1)Oil changes are a big deal.
2)You don't know how serious that rattling is in the timing belt area. Could be wearing belt down.

So I said don't go for it.

Would you get a car like that?

Yea, I would stay away from it, you never know how the engine looks on the inside after that long without fresh oil. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did, but thats Honda for ya! Plus with the rattling near the timing belt, that is just icing on the cake, anything short of a new engine would not be worth it. Save your money and spend it on a safer deal.

nah i wouldn't. every little detail only tells you how much the person has taken care of the car...

Are civics that rare that you have to get this one instead of a rattle free and better cared for one?

Didn't think so
