5mm is indeed the biggest you can go safely w/o changing studs.
I've been running a pair of 5mm H&R's in the rear for a couple years.
So would you say I'm safe with running them? they'll be for the front

will the stock 04 TL (17x8) rims fit on a sedan with 235/45 tires ?
depends on drop. with no drop yes. i fit TL rims on my coupe with 235/45 with 1 finger gap all around
2 questions.
1) Will a set of XXR 527's 17x8.25 fit on my coupe.
2) If I were to get tires for them that required a stretch would basic places like discount tire still mount them for me? (Gonna get some 205/45/17's)
will the stock 04 TL (17x8) rims fit on a sedan that has stock suspension with 235/45 tires ?
1) Yes.
2) they should. but some places are picky about it.
