I'm about to install a relay to my fog lights using this diagram:

foglite.jpg

My question pertains to the wire that is going from the Switch to the Fusebox/IGN/Battery power. Is it okay if i ground this wire? or where is the easiest place to tap it into. I am okay with the fog lights being able to turn on and off even when the ignition is off. just want whatever is easiest.

thanks

You wouldn't be grounding it, you need 12 v there. If you want it to be somewhat proper, if you look at the fog light install on handa-accessories.com for our cars, that will tell you what wire to connect the fog switch to on the headlight switch harness. If you just want 12v though, you could get it from the accessory wire on your radio, your cigarette lighter or the constant 12v on the radio. I wouldn't tap into any old 12v though.

Ah i see, thanks. I've decided to connect it to the headlight harness since i dont have a clue where the accessory wires are.

On the instructions, it seems like the fog switch is connected at two points to the headlight harness (red/black) and (yellow).

I only have one wire coming from my switch, would i have to splice it tap it into both locations? Or do i choose one?

Thanks for your help

it'll be easier just to tap it into your fuse box. just look under the driver's side dash and there's empty spots on the fuse box that already have power wired to it. you'll just need a crimp-on male quick disconnect to attach to the wire

that sounds like a good idea. heres what my fuse box looks like. i only see open spots on the top left and bottom left, are those the ones youre talking about?

If you ever decide to go the other way, the two wires are for headlight signal. Low and high beam. You would just use low. But the OEM fog switch shuts off fogs on high beam. you could quickly find which is which with a voltmeter and operating the switch.

I'd go parking lights, on with both headlights

I've got another hack coming up though, for similar wiring.

Theirs a open slot under the dashfuse panel that will allow you to turn on the fogs when ignition is in "on" position.

Thats how i wired mine and i can turn them on anytime i want to.
