Oh, there might be a lockout thing on 'em, idk. I didn't care if it worked or not so I never looked into it.

Like he said, I just bump it over in drive, for safety :D

Hi guys! Just registered so I could post on this thread. I just picked myself up a '99 Prelude Shifter Assembly yesterday and am planning on documenting the install this weekend.

An update on my '99 Prelude Shifter swap:

I was able to see the two plastic pieces that serve as locks to prevent shifting from P to R or R to N without holding the brakes. After playing around with it a little, on my Prelude assembly it looks like holding the brakes would release both locks. To be safe, I removed the piece that locks shifting from R to N rather than cutting/grinding it off. Not too much of a hassle there.

So I've been working on the swap and I've run into a problem I haven't seen anybody else have from reading through posts here and on the guide on v6performance.

I have a 2002 EX V6 and tried swapping in a 99 Prelude (not sure the trim) shifter and was not able to mount the shifter where my preexisting stock shifter used to be mounted on. Once attached to the shifter cable, the shifter assembly is about an inch or two too far back such that I can't bolt it down as is. Also if I trimmed any of the aesthetic pieces (the shifter bezel or my center wood trim) to fit, the shifter would be positioned too far back and I would have a gap at the front of my center wood trim.

Not sure if this is an issue other people had and were able to quickly address it, or perhaps the '99 Prelude shifter isn't quite a perfect fit with my 2002 EX V6. At the moment I have the shifter installed anyway and am really enjoying having a gated shifter but I have to say I was really looking forward to being able to use the Prelude bezel in my interior.

I ordered a shift boot online to cover up the opening I've left in my wood trim for the time being while I sit and wait for maybe a '00 or '01 Prelude to pop up at a local junkyard. When one does I'm planning to bring my Accord shifter and physically verify that a newer Prelude shifter assembly is built that inch or so difference that makes it a better fit for my Accord.

I think right now my account is too new to post pictures of the work I've done so far but expect those to come up when I'm able. I have some good pictures of the assembly that may clear up some confusion people have had over what needs to be removed.
