Just a side note, if you want the type s shifter (02-03) the shifter stick for the knob is skinnier. The base model is thicker for the knob. Well in my case it was. I was going to wire mine to the normal shift lock, but didn't want more splicing so i just cut it. You wont shift into reverse unless you really want to. The gated shifter will stop you. (BUT STILL BE CAREFUL!!!) i just put mine in tiptronic mode and shift Up and down all day LOL. (Mine was not wired for it, just habit). As for D3 D4 D5...ON A TL CLUSTER not sure of the OEM... if you get the 00-03 shifter D4 will be D5. Its computer controlled basically, so once the transmission range switch is in D4 position the computer will send the signal for D5 just because of the cluster internal circuitry. The other gears are basically just grounded when the transmission range is in the specific gear. Maybe someone can chime in with the OEM cluster.
you pretend shift with yours too!? lol i do it without noticing. i dont have the oem cluster but i do have the 99 tl cluster which used a 4 speed transmission so everything lines up fine on the cluster, should work exactly the same with the oem accord cluster and any tl shifter, i have an 03 tl shifter with like an 07 tl knob

Oh Ok so it'll line up with the original cluster that's good to know. So the 99 TL shifter is the one to look for OP, i was going to change some wires on the cluster but it didn't bother me D5 being D4. (if using the 00-03 shifter)
Brad no more pretending for now, looking and saving for the 6sp.

Hey sorry to dig up an old thread but rather than start a new thread to which everyone responds "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON" I thought I'd ask some questions here since it seems some of you have done the swap. The DIY on v6p wasn't very clear on removing the stock accord shifter.

How did you guys get it out. Aside from removing the black plastic center console around the shifter and cup holders, I don't have much access to the bolts and shift cable. Did you guys pull out the entire center console (the whole piece running from the dash to the center arm rest)? Just the cubby/cigarette lighter? I don't want to disassemble the whole thing if I don't have to.

I took out the center console from dash to armrest. Its better even though its more work. There is a bolt that holds your shifter cable. Much easier with the center console off. Also you will need to trim some of the Acura shifter, so without the center console you can see what needs to be cut off.

Back from the dead...

I want this swap, but I need locked in 2nd, and preferably 1st for autox,

Does it?

I start in 1st, shift to 2nd, I need no computer that is convinced it's smarter.

my 03 shifter does it fine, even some gates so you dont accidently shove it past 2 into 3 or 4 like stock shifter

It really is purely aesthetic. There's no function in the tiptronic part whatsoever. I want it for looks, knob options, and so I can pretend shift. :lawl:
