Well from what I've been reading...they will warranty the tranny up to 3 yrs or 30,000 miles? So I should be covered within that time frame....so for the short term I will feel somewhat comfortable with the car....but for the long term I will not want to have to worry about when my tranny will give up on me again...I've read that some people have had their replacement die within months and some years....I really can't imagine going thru what I went thru this time again...I was lucky I didn't get into a car accident...i mean the car is great aside from the weak tranny....the styling on the 6th gen is also great...people cant believe that my car is almost 10 yrs old...if i try to sell it privately I could probably still get $6000 out from it...I might try that when there is a car I want....nothing really great out there right now...kinda excited about the bmw 135i though :)

well, for the cars that has their new tranny just replaced within months or years, it's because they over use their power. if you know your limit when driving then you shouldn't floor it all the time. but to me, accord is more of a style than a race car. accord only have limited power but not for racing. if you want a faster car, then i guess you should go with something different.

Yeah that's what my service advisor told me to do and I've also read about that in other forums. What did you say to them? Do you think you could link me to it?

Yeah since the car went pass 50k I hardly ever drive it hard anymore...I know what you mean when you say we know the limits to our cars...but in a way I feel that we are adapting ourselves to machines built to last under normal conditions and I shouldn't feel like I NEED to change my driving habits/style to accommodate that. I might end up keeping the car for a while depending on how the new tranny feels...but honestly I don't have much trust left...

Just an update: I was able to call Honda Care and they have opened up a case for review and have forwarded it to a manager. I hope it won't be long until I find out whether or not all these years of being loyal to Honda actually pays off. (We owned nothing but accords in our family...)

Thanks for the link!

Sounds a lot like what I'm going thru....though the dealer did not tell me about the $96 "diagnostic fee" since I told them they really don't need to test drive it I was pretty sure it needs a new tranny...

I'm also waiting for a supervisor to pick up and review the case. I'll give them a call later today cuz I know they won't be calling me - I'd be surprised.

I called up the dealership and they said that they are aiming for the car to be done by tomorrow. So I really hope I get an answer soon...I definitely don't expect them to fork up the whole bill...but some help would be appreciated.

We'll find out I guess...

Just an update on what's been going on for the past 2 weeks....

My car is still at the dealership..pending a decision from Honda Care.

It took them almost a week to assign the case to a case manager for review even though they knew my car was at the dealership this whole time.

The case manager then took 2-3 days to call me and he asked for my service records on the transmission. I provided him with my receipt for service at 90k miles on the same day.

Waited another week and today he called me and said that in the owner's manual it states that the transmission fluid needs to be replaced at 30k, 60k, and 90k mile intervals...I told him that I remember it said 90k miles and every 30k thereafter...he told me to look at page 198 in my manual but I did not have the manual on me and told him I will look into it and call him back...

So I got home and thank god I had my manual with me (i usually leave it in the car). I looked at page 198 and it does state what he said..only the maintenance schedule he was referencing to was under "severe conditions" in which I never went by...I then looked at the "normal conditions" and it indeed states the transmission fluid change recommended at 90k miles.

I called and left the case manager a message about this discrepancy and I have no idea what he will try next to play hard ball...

Isn't the "normal conditions" applied to the majority of owners out there? I don't understand why he was stating the severe conditions to me...

Let's hope I don't have to wait another week to hear back.

Simplicity,

I feel you man the same thing happened to my accord. I was out of my warranty so I asked them if there was a recall on the transmissions for the 6th gens (I strongly believe there should be). They said no and they didn't want to do anything for me besides take my money. If they aren't going to cut you any kind of deal, DON'T have your tranny replaced at Honda. Go to individual transmission stores and you can get a much better deal.

My story was the same, except my trany didn't fail on me. It was slipping severely but I had it fixed before it failed. The good thing about what I did was that since it was still in the slipping stage, I had my tranny rebuilt, instead of ordering an entirely different remanufactured tranny. I had this done for $900 and I also got a 6 month warranty. If you know Aamco transmissions they were asking for $1600 with a 1 year warranty to rebuild my tranny.

The bad case in your story is that your tranny already failed. There is a possibility that you can have it fixed but I doubt it. It never hurts to try. Good luck and let us know the outcome.
