Seems like some people are a bit confused here. The automakers are trying to prevent end users from modifying the code contained in the ECU. They're NOT trying to prevent you from pressing in a new balljoint or installing a new stereo.

Oh, they mean not to hack the brain. So, something like using AEM's electronic modules would be an issue. That sucks. Can't be passing the smog test after an engine conversion either? So, if your car has the TPMS, you can't be rolling with old school wheels. Is that right?

Btw, is it just me that your name sounds like a punishment?

I could just imagine how many people would end up boycotting these companies if something like this happened. Its completely ridiculous. People working their own vehicles is what has made the auto industry progress to what it is now. I couldn't imagine what idiot would want to do this.

It's merely upside-down, written upside-down and backwards.

Guys the car makers are just saying that they want to make tuning of the ECU illegal because of epa laws and digital copyright law. For example I just bought a 2015 sti and tune it on cobb either e85 preference or 90 or even flex which now change emission output on the car and remember the factory tune was implemented to lower emission for the little hp.:party52:

Long live the muscle car, then, before all this technology stuff got in the way and made cars less fun to modify and drive.

That's what I was thinking after I finished reading. Just more reason not to buy newer cars.

Amen reverend. We have gone too far, shame nothing can ever be left as-is.

Don't get too excited yet....

Over on GlockTalk.com, a guy rebuilt his own Nissan transmission but needed to have the PCM programmed for the valve body. Nissan refuses to program it for him. Third party's can no longer program that valve body PCM either, per Nissan corporate.

So, you can still tinker with your car, but if you need some programming from the Car company, they might just say "Nope, can't help you."
