Ok so the check engine light comes on the ac.i have the 4cyl engine
so i take it to my Local Stealership, Sussman Honda in Glenside, Pa and they pretty much tell me ....
i need
1. new vtec controller - $175
2 Catalytic converter - 1350
3 And a Tranny..........
Its funny i haven't had an issue with the tranny though everything feels great so i don't know how they came up with that one.But luckily i got the extended warranty so thats covered. i get that done tomorrow
But the others aren't. im at 85k.
And the warranty on the cat expired at 80k so they are trying to see if they can help me out with that i hope so,.
So my questions are
1 Is there any possibility of getting the cat work done for cheaper?
2. Where can i find an oem cat for our cars on the net ?
3 What makes the cat for our more expensive than any other cars. Do i need the exact Honda cat or will something else work?
4. How long can i go with out getting the cat replaced. I do have the money but im trying to save up for an engagement ring and these cost will definitely kill my funds.
Anything else yall might feel is helpful please post

it's up to honda... they might give u a break on the price since u just passed 80K... if not, just get a generic cat off eGay, slap it on and call it a day

2. Where can i find an oem cat for our cars on the net ?
search? :redface2:

3 What makes the cat for our more expensive than any other cars. Do i need the exact Honda cat or will something else work?
anything will work

4. How long can i go with out getting the cat replaced. I do have the money but im trying to save up for an engagement ring and these cost will definitely kill my funds.
doesn't need to be replaced if u dun care abt the environment.. all it does it clean up the exhaust fumes... oh, it'll help u pass smog

What codes are showing? You need to make sure the stealership is not BS'ing you about the "needed repairs." Go to AutoZone and have them pull the codes with their OBDII code reader. Post the numbers here. Make sure you post the exact code numbers though. AZ will try to tell you what the codes mean, but normally they are not correct for Hondas.

1. yes, but still going to be quite costly
2. your best bet would be to order from a local place and get it installed from them
3. the only other cheaper alternative you have is to get a test pipe, but when SMOG rolls around, you are screwed.
4. you can go as long as you want w/o one, but smog is basically when youre gonna need your cat converter back. in the meantime, get a test pipe put in at least.

btw, since your cat is toast, your fumes are more cancerous, so try not to breathe it :Smoker:
