Question about 7th gen V6

I have a 99 accord 5 sp sedan. The 4 cyl is totally gutless but at least its a 5 speed. My question is this... has anyone done a swap from a 4 cyl to a 7th gen v6? I found one locally for cheap (engine) and my girlfriend has a 7th gen v6 and I love her car. I know it will take fabrication to get it in there, but it comes with the harnesses and everything I need, but I don't know if I would need a 6 speed, or if it would mate up to my 5 speed. I looked in the search and didn't find anything for this. I'd love it with 240 hp. Eventually I'd probably upgrade to a 6 spd, but its money that I don't really have right now. I have friends that are familiar with hondas (unlike myself) and some friends that have good fabrication skills so I'm not worried about that part, just not sure what all would have to be done other than suspension and wiring. Any ideas? I do know that it would take some work, but I think that it would be worth it.

Your transmission will NOT work with that or any J-Series engine so you'll have to add an expensive transmission to the parts list. The engine mount points are not the same, so custom engine mounts and fabrication there. So after you figure out how out how to deal with getting an engine and trans in there, you'll have to look at axles, wiring/ecu/K-Pro Hondata, and custom header. Basically everything will be custom, so if you're talking about "money I don't really have" then you probably don't have enough to do this. It would be badass though.

Well the engine is from a wrecked honda and I work at a machine shop with some very skilled people. I can get the ecu from the car and wiring, and hopefully the cats and exhaust so that I have something to start with. The manifolds are cast into the haed on those, so there is only a down pipe, but the car has 3 cats so to keep things legal I would need to retain those. I knew about the exhaust and the mounts, wasn't sure how the cars differ in width, but I figured axles. The mounts don't really turn me away from doing it. I'm a gm guy and have done a lot of work to a firebird I used to own, and anything that I would need help with I have the resources available to figure it out and get it done. Too bad the 6 speeds are prolly expensive as hell. Oh well I might still pick up the engine and save it for when I have a little more money or can find a 6 speed. I could also maybe build it up for my girlfriends car and give her some more power (but I should def have the faster car lol).

i would give u props if u could do it.... if u can keep costs down through hook ups, the def go for it.... but as stated, mounts and fabrication would be a pain... i dun even think they make mounts for the 7th gen AV6 motor for the 6th gen I4... if u had a 6th gen v6 to begin with, it would have been a lot earlier.... why not a K series swap instead?

The motor I found is $395 and def has more power and torque. I live in upstate ny and there are a lot of hills, and the v6 would be great. More performance and plenty of torque. I also want good driveability and reliability. I saw a k series on ebay with a 6 speed for $6,000 and my car isn't even worth that lol.

Wow, that's a sick price for the motor. The 6spd trannies are a pain in the a$$ to find, and are very expensive. I'm sure you could find one for $2k, but that's a lot, plus all the custom fabrication it would take, I'm sure it would end up being a good chunk of change. However, if you do it and it works out, :bowdown:

They put the 6th gen v6 in a hatch, and an SRT-4 motor in a hatch, so I'm sure this could work. Plus, all J series motors block's are the same I assume? So you would probably be able to use the 6th gen v6 mounts? All except the tranny mount, of course. I may be wrong, but if that's true, that would save a lot of time and money.

I also believe the CL-S, TL-S, and 7th gen v6 6spd trannies are identical; it's just finding them for a good price that's the hard part. But good luck! :thumbsup:

Well when I got thinking about having to get new wheels and all of that stuff, the prices were adding up in my head. It would be cool, but more than what the car is worth. I like my accord and its in good shape and everything, but I've learned my lesson about modding cars. If you plan on keeping it forever go for it, but almost always you will never get out what you put int it. I think I'll just save my money to get a 7th gen 6 speed. I don't really like the 08 accord coupes, besides the 7th gens are getting cheaper lol. I think the swap would be possible, but a lot more money that what I want to put into the project. If anyone is interested in the motor I found it on ebay. Its in PA and he said local pick up only.

I believe they are exactly the same..just the trannies are on opposite sides. But I could be wrong.

Obviously the engine bays are going to be different if the trannies are on different sides...lol. I mean the size of them are the same.

It's definitely big enough....
