because with 17's you have a smaller sidewall, and not a 55 sidewall like you would on a 16.

the ideal tire size for a 16 on our cars is a 205/55, thats a lot of sidewall. with 17s the ideal size is 225/45. a 45 sidewall is still plenty of sidewall, but its smaller, so therefore stiffer and will handle better.

Do not get 225/50's for a 16 inch wheel unless it is wider than 8 inches, they will look huge and meaty, I made that mistake. I am currently trying to sell my tires, they are Kumho Ecsta ASX's and if you want them, I will make you a deal that you cant refuse.
