Canon EOS Elan 7N 35mm... the LCD screen inside the viewfinder doesn't work... guy was selling it for $160... ran a roll through it, remember the screen didn't work, said he wasn't selling it.

Think it's worth offering him $100 for it?

Guy decided to send it to canon for fixing and will decide to sell or keep it when the repair bill comes back :eh: ...

Canon guys... any of you have experience with the 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM? Supposedly better than the 18-55 IS. I need a good cheap walkaround that will perform better than my ****ty tamron, i think this is the answer.

Solid lens. This would be my preference. From best to worst:

17-55 2.8 IS
15-85
17-85
18-55 IS
28-135 IS

But for $100 you really can't beat the 18-55 IS. Great sharpness and very useful. If you want to spend 3x as much, get the 17-85.
