i'm going to go ahead and disagree after having ridden in/driven my dad's TSX for numerous hours and miles with the MXV4 (or a number close to that...it's MXsomething)...they are the loudest car tire ive ever been present to witness, short of the cheap chinese tires and hankook optimos.

my ****pile accord, 10 years older, with higher performance tires (though 15s, not 17s, 10mm narrower) is quieter on the highway...and it's not an acura.
Those would be the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 and those are pure junk! My dad had those on his TL and hated them. The Primacy MXV4 are a different story.
Here's a side-by-side.

I dont know. The Avid does look pretty good. Another factor, and this is something i need to look at myself, is that, I only drive about 100 miles/week. I make the occassional trip to KC or STL but that doesnt happen often, so im looking at putting 30k on any tire in the next 5 years.

I've never heard much about the Avids but I had a older Yokohama tire, the AS430 and those were by far the worst tires i've ever had, lasted 25k miles with so much uneven wear, loud and were horrible in the rain. But some of the other models are pretty decent.
The Pirelli may be out. If it werent for the reviews, i wouldnt have even considered it.

The Pole Position is too expensive for my taste, lol. I really dont wanna spend more than $100 on each tire.

I currently have Bridgestone HP50 and theyre too loud. Not so loud that the radio or conversation cant drone them out but i just dont like them.
The pole position are quite pricey, my dad just put them on his TL and we love them! He had some BFgoodrich G-force sport before the Pole Position and those were so damn loud.

the yokohamas that came with the scion tCs were crap... but the avid touring S is full of win... drove it hard along PCH (windy road south of SF) with 4 ppl in the rain in the rain and i only lost traction once during a downhill turn :omgbd:

Hence my conflict. Im yet to find anything bad about the Harmony. The Primacy is said to be good, but the Pilot's are junk. So far Michelin is 2:3.

The Avid's scored ok, Im just not a fan of Yokohama. Dont know too many people, personally, who've ran them and had good things to say. Their price tag is pleasing, but so is the Fuzion HRi, but you get what you pay for.

If the Direzza DZ101 wasnt a directional, id get them again, as i had them on my ITRs on my last Accord. :(

In general Michelin is more expensive and imo a little overpriced. But they are great tires, save for a couple. Pirelli is cheaper, and for the money you'd save I'd go with them. But I wouldn't rule out Bridgestone or cheaper yet, Kuhmo.

If I were to buy new all season tires right now I'd pick up a set of RE 960 Pole Positions. Expensive, but soo worth it.

Before i got down to the Harmony and P4, i had also looked at the Bridgestone Traction TA/T, the Potenza, General Altimax HP/RT, the Turanza and the ComforTred.

Heard good reviews here on the ComforTred, bad elsewhere.
I know someone who swears by Potenzas, but i believe theyre a directional.
General's are good tires, but reviews werent good and they were also directional.
The Traction looked like a good tire and i was about ready to call for pricing but i looked into it more and found alot of people complaining about road noise.

If i had to sacrifice one thing for another it'd probably be noise. Anything quieter than my current ones, lol.

Continental DWS (that's what I have) are really awesome tires. They handle really really nice in snow and ice and dry and wet and really quiet. Only thing I don't like is their side wall a bit soft, but at least it doesn't stick out like other tires (after using continental, I don't rub anymore)

^You don't have to install them that way. It's mostly for channeling water. So I wouldn't let that stop you.

What is so bad about directional tires?

If you're just replacing the stock tires, get something bran name, decent reviews and within your price range. 98% of the guys writing tires reviews aren't qualified and don't know what the hell they're talking about.
