I don't know if the satin silver matches well (what I have) nor if Duplicolor has a Heather Mist Metallic. I do know I have not had the best match on other colors. ug

I have had good luck with a local paint shop that can custom mix paint to a spray can. Not only is the match right, it is just higher quality paint as well. I pay about $16 per can, there are a few sites online. They also can do the code your father did, if it wasn't stock and he remembers. I don't know if they would do a "custom color", meaning he mixed it himself but if he knows the formula, it shouldn't be a problem.

what is the best website to get the paint from? I'd like to have a can or two just in case i ever decide to get a lip, etc.

Take his truck and back it into the house, then say you'll get around to fixing it. :coffee:

You could paint it...it's such a little area, and silver is an easier color to match, it would probably be fine. But I'd still want the paint codes to match up myself.

silver is actually one of hardest
silvers and golds, and most defiantly the hardest to blend

duplicolor might work but i dnt suggest
and clear from a can, id never but just my .02

a quart of base quart of sealer quart of clear is something like 150 maybe 200 from a ppg store, u cant buy them any less than quarts

but ull actually only use like 2 ounces of base and 2 ounces of sealer, clear wld be around 8 ounces
what ever left over is back up for a bumper or something

True on the silver.

There are 2 spray can clears I trust though. One is PPG, I forget the other brand but they have 2 versions, one normal, the other actually has a catalyst. I wish I knew the name but it's decent. 2x more expensive than duplicolor and even more for the one with a catalyst (which has to be used in a short period of time or it will dry in the can).

I don't know which I use and I don't have a can. I know it has an Orange/Yellow PGG logo.

The other I just found. It is SprayMax. That doesn't spray as easy and I definitely have to wet sand. I prefer whatever PGG spray can clear I use.

I wouldn't paint a car with either but for smaller stuff like lips, it does the job for me without having to invest in good equipment that I don't have room for.

Well, that is a lie, I have considered painting my Jag with spray paint and spray clear if I do a non metallic, but that would only be if I did it panel by panel over a longish period of time.

Sorry, half way thread jacking.

^Pittsburgh Plate Glass.

I gotta think silver would be much easier to match than a red or blue, but I'm no paint expert.

OP, I've gotten a few cans made up at a Sherwin Williams paint center for some of my projects, you just need to know the paint code.
