Looking around I've seen some people here at 6GA paint their plastic engine covers various different colors. I want to take that one step further and paint not only my car's plastic engine covers, but also paint my car's intake manifold.

Now I know that the manifold gets pretty hot so I will need some high temp paint. Will I also need some sort of high temp base paint as well to preventing the paint from bubbling/boiling off? What are some high temp base paint and colored high temp paint that's recommended?

Then what about the plastic covers. I know some of those pieces get pretty warm too. Will those require any sort of high temp base paint and paint? Or will regular off the shelf paint work for both parts?

TIA. This will be totally badassery when finished :D

When I had my 3.0 I was going to get the engine covers painted, and I found it was not necessary to use high temp paint for them. For the IM, yes.

Personally I would just sand and paint the covers and clear them so they’re gloss. And polish the IM.

There is another member on here that painted his IM black and his covers red.

You should be ok with either Plasti-dip or plastic-specific paint/clear for the covers.

Where can I get this Plastic-dip or plastic-specific paint at? Any hardware store like Lowe's and Home Depot? Can it also be found at an auto parts store like Napa, O'Reily's, or Autozone?

Any pics of this guy's engine compartment? This sounds exactly like what I want to do. I'll be using silver to match my car though :)

Krylon makes the plastic specific paint.

^ Would have looked better if he left the H emblem there and painted the lettering black. Or left the panel black and painted the lettering red.
