Basically, HID's are just another modification to make your car look better.
Same as rims, tint or a body/lip kit.
At least HID's do have a positive function, when properly aimed.

Half of that is true.

You buy an HID kit to look good
You make a retrofit to see and look good without blinding on comming traffic ;)

HID is HID no matter how it is used, it still improves light output greatly. That the statement "You buy an HID kit to look good" is nonsense. The optics on the accords headlamps are actually great. There isn't a lot of glare really. 95% of the time people are blinded because headlamps are improperly aimed. And I have seen projectors that are seriously blinding depending on the angle etc the oncoming car is approaching. I know plenty of people who bought HID kits based on the light output alone not the look. I have sold kits to 60 year old men and women who just needed increased lighting performance at night.

I would put HIDs under rims, side skirts, lips, body kits, spoilers, etc.
It's a nice visual mod to make the car look better.

OK, I never said I hated them. I was just wondering why people spend lots of dough on them. I would do it if I had the money.

HID whether its retro or a kit is still functional, its just retrofit/projector is a much more refined version.

but yeah, I would compare it to lowering your car or something lol - looks good but also has great performance/usability

I never said that it's not used for better performance lighting. I'm a retro guy I'm going to be biased on that, but its the fact that you dont see the "regular" tuner buying kits to "see" better at night. They buy the HID kit becuase its cheap, affordable, and looks sweet. I can name 5 guys off of the top of my head that bought 8000k kits and put them in their halogen housings and said that they actually lost their vision at night. That's becuase its 8000k and thats getting to the darker end of the kalvin spectrum which is normal. I'm sure you can agree with me that the norm for buying a kit is 8000k for equalizing "cool" and "functional" but in the end of the day they feel cool becuase they have HID's. :Starwars:

But I can say the same thing for retros too. You can buy 12000k bulbs and lose the sole purpose of having headlights lol Which I know my buddy has 12000k on his evo, and 10000k on his porsche, so in the end of the day he chose the "cool" route over "functional"

I hope you get what I'm trying to say here, I'm not trying to dis you over your kits or w/e but either way you buy HID kits/retros for looks, becuase how many accords do you know with retros/HIDs besides the guys on this site?

What about people who get 10000K & 12000K HID's
I really don't think they purchase them for the function.

They purchose those one of two reasons:

They like the way they look
OR
They were misled thinking the higher the Kelvin, the brighter the road will be

whats the cheapest HID setup you can buy? Can you use HIDs without projectors, like plug em in where the existing bulbs go?
