Speedometer stopped working

So the other day I was driving on the highways (~65-70 mph) and My passenger side tires hit a pretty decent sized bump or crack on the road and startled me. A minute later I noticed that my speedometer no longer tells me how fast I'm going. RPM, fuel level, and temperature gauges still work. Anyone know how to fix this?

Is it just a connection that may have come loose that I just need to reconnect? Not sure what to look for.

It should b a black plug w a screw holding it in its on top of the trans kinda back toward the firewall.

No, wheel speed sensor is for ABS. VSS generates the sig for speedo. there are 3 wires on MT trans. Power, gnd and voltage out (signal).

Do you have a Multimeter? Do you know how to probe a connector to chk the voltage? This is not an easy one for a noob. But, I will try to explain.

You need a digital multimeter (about $20 for basic voltage and ohms reading capable meter), you need to either buy a paper serivice manual like a haynes or chilton for the car. Or you can subscribe to an online service manual like alldatadiy. Look up the procedure to test the VSS. It will show the location. Its on top of the trans. There are three wires. Power, Gnd and signal (blue) and how to chk it. The blue wire runs from the trans to the instrument cluster and the ecu.

My guess is either the connector fell or broke off the VSS. Make sure it is plugged into the trans and if so make sure you have power and ground. If you do have power and gnd, there could be a break in the wire going to the instrument cluster. You have to test for continuity (contact) between both ends. You also have to probe the back of the connector and see if when the car is going, you get a voltage signal. If there is no voltage being generated, the VSS is prob bad.
