My car keeps having persistent EGR port related CEL codes and I want to get rid of them. I know that cleaning the port on the intake manifold side is the most common way of taking care of it, and I did that to my car again recently. This time, I want to clean out the EGR port on the engine block side. I want to clean out the tube that goes to the EGR valve, so I need to know how long it is. I'm thinking of taking care of it with a flexible long brush like these.

Has anybody ever cleaned it out before or has everybody only done the EGR port on the intake manifold side?

I have, just take off your EGR valve and from the top side spray A TON of carb cleaner down there and that will get just about everything out. I talking like half a can or all of it. Just make sure you spray compressed air through it once your done and give it time to dry.

I've done that, but I don't feel that works very well still. It's like, if I don't see it come out, it's not clean, lol.

IDK, I'm OCD, haha.

Well those tiny brushes won't do a thing. I've heard of people taking hangers and going through the EGR port with those.

Also, the carb cleaner will come out black so you can see when its clean by the color of the car cleaner when it come out..

I know those other brushes won't do anything. That's why I'm asking what the length of the port is so I can find or jimmy-rig something together to get it taken care of.

I'll be taking care of the compression leak tomorrow. I'm thinking of tossing my DC strut bar as well and getting one from an Acura CL / TL instead.
