And there it is. Mmm for a fully garage-built 3" mendrel-bent turbo-back exhaust.
New downpipe, tacked together but complete:
Magnaflow metal catalyst spun...
Made some progress today. I fully re-built the up-pipe, rotated the turbo 180 degrees, lowered the turbo, moved it toward the cab and squared it up in the bay, then started on the new 3" downpipe. The setup is going together beautifully.
Don't mind the dirt and chaos in my engine bay...
Credit cards make everyone ballers, lol. Get wheels!

They're Leon Hardiritt Klosters. Similar spoke design as equips, but mo bettuh IMO. Flat lips, hardware full circle, 3 piece forged, and a bit less common

Anytime you have a bend/corner, flow is less efficient. Because it is a straight-through shot to the exit, the flow doesn't get caught-up in the muffler packing. It is also generally louder though, so that's the trade-off
It's an aluminized high-temp silicone-based coating that closely matches the sheen of an aluminized exhaust tubing. I think it's actually designed for header wrap, but works very well to prevent rust on welds

Which muffler do you have? I'm real excited to see what the mendrel and 1/2" tubing increase does for my lag and volume. I'll be building a downpipe out of the 3" as well with a machined v-band flange. Once it's all said-and-done, there should be some pretty legit gains on the j36.

The diy universal kits are the way to do it. Super cheap, fully mendrel bent, and pretty damn easy to make the perfect setup. Do it! But yes, the exhaust is just tack welded atm. Once the DP and cat is in, I'll go back and...
i removed a big useless metal hunk in my engine bay which has allowed me to re-think, re-route, re-build, and re-size my exhaust.
i started with a universal DIY flowmaster 3" mendrel bent tubing kit, added a 3" high-flow metal catalyst magnaflow turbo cat with a single magnaflow SS 3" turbo...
^i'm gonna grab real pics when i get my leon's on, so the full effect can be felt. mmm. the basket turned out better than i could've ever expected though
