02 Accord 4 Cylinder upgrading tires

Just got my accord and love it, recently replaced all shocks and brakes and the car is due for some tires and rims. I found a good deal on some Wheels with 205/40/17 tires on them. Will they be fine ? I'm currently running 215/50/17 which seem to be fine. I posted a question similar to this on Yahoo answers and got mixed answers, some saying it will be fine others saying its a "Great way to get killed though". So I am in need of some input from fellow accord owners, Thanks!

Also its the 4 cylinder with 4 lug bolt pattern

Realized I posted in wrong section but do not know how to delete the post, any help?

You won't get you killed ^^ but I'm not sure it respects the oem circunference of the tyre. 225/45/17 is good. Oem is 205/55/16. in 17 you can have
205/50R17 93 EL
215/45R17 91 EL
225/45R17 91
225/45R17 94 EL
245/40R17 91
245/40R17 95 EL
255/40R17 94
255/40R17 98 EL
275/35R17 94

So your odo will be false, and your car lowered, but I don't think its is very dangerous.

You need a larger sidewall than 40 for 17's. At least a 45 is recommended. It's not so much a danger to have sidewalls that are too small so much as it looks bad and also makes your speedo/odo very inaccurate. So yes, I would either try to get the seller to remove the tires or replace them if you buy the wheels. What are the specs on the rims?

Merged your two threads.

Thanks for the input, I also found some 17 in rims I might purchase and get brand new tires from the store. Also, what do the numbers mean at the end of the tire sizes mean? sorry im no expert, for example the "93 EL"

93 is the load rating, "EL" I haven't seen but I assume that specifies the load range.

I'm on 225/45/17 and it's good :), but it depends of the width of your rims, my wheels or 7.5 inches so it's the perfect size for them.

You need to give more info than just 17" wheels. What width are the wheels and offset. Are you wanting more traction, better fuel mileage, etc.?

Go to 1010tires.com and use their tire calculator.

To decide what tires to use I would recommend going to tirerack and reading reviews/comparisons.
