Hello all,

I'm about to put these on my 2000 Accord Sedan, was wondering if I should expect them to rub. I did a search, most people said they did not rub but it was not a consistent response. I know stock is 235/45/17, I'm considering 245/45/17. Has anyone tried that size on the 2005 TL wheels?

Thanks!

Don't do that. Go 225/45. 245 is too wide unless you're rolling or pulling fenders. 235 is fine but may cause slight rubbing depending on if you're lowered and how much.

How low is the car, if at all?

Thanks for the input guys, sounds like 245 is a bad idea. I am running Tein Street Basis with the minimum drop of about 1.4 inches. I have a two finger gap now front and rear. I really would like to go with 235 if possible. Do you think I'll have rubbing issues with my drop?

1.4" is a very mild drop, you won't rub. If you go lower though, you might. That's if you go with 235 though.

Why are you keen on wanting a 235 section width? Like others have said 225 fits/looks better. And it will give you that flexibility for when you want to go lower...because, you will. I learned that the hard way. :)

the Tl wheels are always 8" wide right? I know the a spec wheels can differ. but that is also something to consider. The TL wheels i just put on were 8 in wide and i put 225's on and they look pretty good. though you are right 235 is standard for those wheels (that is not considering a drop).

4th image down i think shows best how the 225's will fit/ look on the wheel
since it isn't the 235 you can see the ever so slightest stretch (if you look really close)

do 225's!

Glad to hear 235 shouldn't cause an issue with my drop. I know everybody says I'll go lower but I've been through a very dropped car and it was a pain dealing with it as a daily driver. Plus I'm no longer a fan of the slammed look, I'm probably just getting old now.

As for why I want 235 there are multiple reasons.
1. I like the look of a wider tire in terms of the stance and the sidewall shape.
2. Using the tire calculator (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html) 235/45 is nearly identical to my original tire diameter and will keep my speedo accurate. In 225 size I'd need to do a 50 aspect ratio to keep the speedo accurate.
3. Stock is 205 width on a 6 inch wide wheel. The TL wheels are two inches wider so I'd like to get a tire that takes full advantage of the additional rim width.

tein's are pretty soft, with a 2 finger gap, id bet that 235's would rub no problem. not that rubbing is bad anyway, but if youre really scared of that, you should go 225...the difference of looks between the two is definitely minimal :lawl: a 225 would be plenty of tire.

imo, if i was you, id save a couple bucks by going with the 225's and be worry free of rubbing. and a 225/50/17 is definitely wayy too big, what stock tire size did you use for the tire calculator?
