I currently have a accord v6, and the transmission is starting to go out.

I have searched both here and v6performance for the procedure and pros/cons.

However, im trying to convince my parents that the 6 speed swap would be better for longevity purposes, are there any links I could show them to help my case?

Unless your parents are willing to pay for all the labor/equipments, I doubt that they will allow you to swap in the transmission. Parts and labor is going to be a good chunk our of their pocket.

If you want to compare something that is maybe rough estimate to $5-7000 for parts and labor to swap out the auto to a manual trans at a shop to a dealership rebuilt v6 auto trans that's about 600-1500 for just the transmission then a few hundred for labor then of course they are going to go for the cheaper route. Don't quote me on the prices I'm just doing a rough estimate.

Or show them this thread.

Yes, swapping the Auto to a 6 Speed off the TL/CL/7th gen accords will be your best route if you can fork enough dough. If you get your parents to realize it, most people swap the auto to manual for the V6 because they plan to keep it for a long time or they have enough money to do it. As in your shoes, you have to ask your parents permission to swap out the trans is not going to look any better.

With that amount of money, you can do a down payment for a newer car. Like the newer Accords, TL, 03-08 tsx, you'd probably be much happier with those cars also.

Your only helpful sentence in that post... Im sure the OP is well aware about the prices and all that since he's vaguely familiar with the process of installing the 6 speed.

The auto is cheaper to replace. But it will go out again, and if you plan to keep the car for a long time, it will have been cheaper to swap in a manual once rather than replace the auto twice.

This.

Not to mention you should show your parents the recalls that Honda has for the Year/Make/Model of your car, the auto tranny issue is listed for all year 6th Gens.

I don't see any parent agreeing to paying that much for a 6 speed swap. Sorry to be a downer, but thats what i've come to terms with. Better off just saving up paychecks (if you have a job, I don't know about your personal life) until you can afford to buy it and install it yourself. Best of luck to you though, I know my parents wouldn't pay to swap my tranny out. I've already been through looking for a 5-speed for my accord. Auto sucks.

For the amount of money involved, assuming you won't be doing all of the swap labor yourself, I'd honestly be looking into getting myself into a car that already comes with a 6-speed, unless you're really set on having this car for a long time.

i plan on keeping my accord for a very long time, but im sure even after a very long time of trying to convince my dad on the 6spd swap that he still would just want to replace the 4spd auto. Hoping that i get another year out of my transmission maybe by then he would have time to think it over financially and realize that it would be the $martest choice in return helping me out with the large cost of it.
