AEM SRI....Hype or Improvement?

a noob question....
what is a resonator? where can it be found? and does a CAI really give better mpg?

Resonator is in the bomper, beneath your stock air filter... You can't really see it without taking the bumper off...

Supposedly the CAI can get you a couple horses, but its been heavily debated as far as its actual ability to impirove the cars overall horsepower at the wheels...

mpg wise, i got 2-3 mpg better after intake and exhaust. not a huge bump but better then nothing

resonator is the HUGE box that connected to your OEM airbox. it's right under the headlight. if you have a V6, it's under the driver side headlight. V4 is on the passenger side. CAI doesn't necessary give you better MPG. from my research, it lose a little MPG. because cold air gives you more HP but hot air gives you more MPG. also, some believe that SRI is better than CAI because it sucks more air from the SRI than the CAI. but that's what i heard from the streets. ;]

It's not a V4, it's an i-4 if anything... And how would CAI suck less air than SRI if both are the same size pipe and same filter? Isn't the big difference between the two cold vs. hot air? Besides, by the time the "more air" travels to the stock throttle body, it won't really matter, because more air wouldn't really flow into the engine where it matters anyway I would think...

HAHA. v4=i4. same thing. same pipe size doesn't matter but the matter is where the filter is placed. but i'm just saying that CAI gets more cold air because it's more direct from the wind while driving. but i don't want to continue with this SRI/CAI stuff anymore. no more SRI/CAI intake question.

v4 means the cylinders are in a v form if looked at from the front, inline 4 is when the 4 cylinders are in a line. v4 does not equal i4. the reason a cai and a sri get HIGHER mpg numbers is because they are more efficient then the stock airbox. the stock airbox is very restrictive which makes the engine work harder then it needs to to breath, with the very unrestrictive aftermarket setups the engine is relieved of alot of work which makes it run more efficiently, hence, more gas mileage and power. the only real difference in cai and sri is from a stop, if your sitting at a red light with a sri for a minute then the hot air builds up under the hood and you start by sucking in warm air as opposed to a cai where you suck in cold air from outside, but they are both nearly the same once moving

hrmmm, so if i want better mpg... would i go with a SRI or CAI? 1-2 mpg makes a difference [= , and if i take off the resonator would my mpg raise? noobie FTL =/

the only real difference in cai and sri is from a stop, if your sitting at a red light with a sri for a minute then the hot air builds up under the hood and you start by sucking in warm air as opposed to a cai where you suck in cold air from outside, but they are both nearly the same once moving

CAI is supposedly going to be better, but it still has its drawbacks... Essentially, I'm not so sure you would notice much is any difference between the 2. Personally, I'm going CAI because I like the concept of the engine "breathing fresh air"
