Alright, I still can't rev over 4.5k rpm...

Okay, I changed the oil today and reset the ecu. Took it for a spin and still can't rev past 4.5k rpm. I took it to autozone for a CEL scan and the only code that popped out was p1457 which is emission control system leak detected related, but the guy told me that this code shouldn't even effect the rev limiter. I am running out of ideas and don't know what to do.

I've been looking around for a DIY vtec solenoid cleaning, but have not gotten any luck on it. If there is one with photos can anyone please link me to it. THANKS!

Hmm honestly if you have the CEL on then it wouldn't be a bad idea to just start there, some cars are pickier than others so you can't be 100% sure unless you actually get rid of the CEL first, besides CEL's blow.

the vtec solenoid is the 2 big dots looking thing right near the tranny dipstick. for cleaning i think u can only clean the screen or swap it out.

Those are shift solenoids.

The v-tec solenoid is on the back of the cylinder head on the passenger side near the EGR valve.

Sorry for jacking the thread, but can someone throw a picture of the v-tec solenoid on the 4cyl up?

It's part 9 right next to the EGR valve behind the valve cover. You have to take off the whole assembly and replace the filter (Part 11) to get Vtec kicking in again. There are 3 bolts holding it together that are a pain in the *** to get to unless you have small hands and arms. You can move your intake to have more room to work with and maybe the metal cooling hose that connects to the thermostat. that makes things easier. if you need more help let me know.

Since this seems like such a common problem maybe someone with spare time could right up a DIY for it.

I believe the part number is: 15810-PAA-A02.
