lol, I don't think you really can "hear" or "know" when vtec kicks in unless you have an indicator. but i'll tell you one thing, vtec on our cars just shoots more oil on the camshaft and bearings to better lubricate for higher rpm's. it's not really a boost of power like most dumb ricers think. lol i'm sure your fine. trust me, if your vtec solenoid wasn't working properly you wouldn't be able to rev passed 4k rpms. someone correct me if im wrong.

Low oil or low oil pressure will cause this issue. Vtec in our cars just allows power not to fall off after peak torque is attained. We dont feel it kick it because we have 150hp/150lbs torque roughly. If we had no torque or more HP than torque, then of course you would feel something.

Ok, just one more question. If I remove the vtec solenoid's whole assembly will there be any kind of oil leak? Also, what causes the filter to fail? It looks more like some kind of gasket. And has anyone done this before think that this will be a simple task???

Get a haynes manual. It is your friend. Otherwise, no it's not hard. Don't listen to people when they say to just clean the filter and reuse it. replace it! also, it's not hard, but it's not east. on a scale 1-5 i would say it's about a 3. if you have small hands it shouldn't be so hard. don't unscrew the top 3 screws. make sure to remove your intake and probably coolant metal hose for easier accessibility.

uhhhh i remember seeing a diy on the solenoid on here cause i had this same problem. but i dont think its your solenoid. its the check light. for some reason when accords have a cel light on it puts the motor in safe mode and wont let the motor rev passed 4.5k like your problem and vtec wont initiate with check light on either. so get rid of that check light problem and im pretty sure you'll be fine trust i was stuck with the check light problem for years and finally i fixed it and crashed my car likie a week after :usa: check lights are there for a reason

I changed my vtech solenoid about a month or two ago, i wasent able to rev over 4,500 rpms it would feel as though something was holding the engine back from popping into vtech... best thing to do is find a mechanic that has a full computer so they can run diasnostics on it and tell u exactly where the problem is thats if u want to save money cuz honda charges i think 75 or 80... and for installation TAKE OFF THE EGR VALVE it will make ur life much easier!!! the only difficul screw to tighten is the one at the bottom because it is in such a tight space let me know if u have any questions
