Okay, maybe you guys can help me...I want to either build a new bike or buy something pre-assembled.

I want a bike for daily commute that I can use to go over rough terrain....price doesnt really matter if im going to part one together, but id like to not spend over 2000-2500. Id be riding an average of 6 miles a day on it, but I want something I can take down trails on the weekends also....
Right now ive got a Giant Sedona....its really heavy, does the job, but I want something newer...this was a hand me down.

Also, I dont know anything about frame size, so what size would I need for a 6 foot male, my legs are probably about an average length for the height.

i abstain, i don't know much about trail use, i'm the roadie, but i'd say within that price range its not so much an issue about which bike to get but rather what bells and whistles you want with it

i would recommend a 19.5" frame...as for what bike...what are you looking for, and what will this be used for...for 2 grand you can get a pretty good full suspension mtn bike...but 2 grand can get u an even better hardtail..but i don't know if i would want to ride a bike like that to campus..A)because mtn bikes don't have a smooth ride..B)having a really nice bike on a school campus would make me nervous..

I would almost recommend getting a nice mtn bike..then putting some hybrid tires on ur old Giant and using that for commuting..and i would buy one already built..instead of building one up yourself..that isn't worth it unless you making a bike that has like 6K plus in it..

As for certain mtn bikes..i have most of my knowledge about Treks/Gary Fishers...

you could buy a roadie to commute off this guy i work with, he's building another one out of an old frame and would gladly sell it for about 200 + shipping. road bikes will save you an *** load of time on your commute and an oldie is the anti-attraction getting on campus (hence my 90's Peugeot SS versus my 08 Specialized Allez) as my commuter bike

haha, awesome man, i wish i could go on the ride this weekend but i've got family coming into town so the Allez will stay on its hook for now....

SS's are the best bikes for commuting when you get a proper gear ratio, i have yet to have a single issue with the Peugeot (Mierko) even after the ditching and dashing for the alleycat race it held up beautifully

oh and Specialized Armadillo tires = win. I was contemplating crossing the rural highway at a different point than usual and when i decided to get back on the path i was right on top of the \ part of the curb... hit it straight on... no flat :lolrun:

nice!! i have noticed the more i am riding on the streets that there are some REALLY bad bumps around town...and it seems like it will be only time before i get a flat...because i can't see skinny tires like these holding up against some of them bumps on the sidewalk etc etc

dude the armadillo's hold up to all kinds of ****, i've clipped inch diameter pebbles while turning, run over all types of stuff... they're the ****, other than being slowed down by a bump they can take on just about everything, even rail road tracks and
