So i just bought a new HU for my accord. My jaguar does really have the ability to just swap HU's, people make them but they look terrible in a 71 to begin with, plus i want it stock.

So, would i use the same fuse reguarless of how many amps my alternater is? From what i guess, it's a yes. I want to be certain though. My current alternator is 60 amps, i'll be buying a 78 amp or a 94 amp alternator for it, probably 94, once i figure out what i'm going with (you don't want to see a remanufactured price, you will die instantly, so i'm going with a GM alt).

Second question, what gauge wire should i use. I don't have the manual, it's an alpine made in the last 4 years, should be pretty standard as far as i get.

Lastly, what would you normally run for a switched 12 volt source. I cannot splice wires here, if you had an all original car that is 37 year old car, you would understand. I can do it off the fuel pump pretty easily but the wires would have to be under the car. I haven't looked at the wiring for the cig lighter but taking out the console isn't easy either. Just looking for ideas.

I know there were installers on here back in the day, or if you have something similar you have done, let me know. It's british so the electronics are horrid but it should be the same as most cars of that era.

Hi mate, yes fuse size is not affected by alternator output and 60amps is more than enough to run a simple 1/2 amps system, so headunit will be fine. Most heaunits need just a simple 10amp inline fuse.

10ga minimum is what I recommend. Go to any electronics store and tell them you will be using it to power a 12volts car radio with a max current draw off 10amps and they should hook you up with something worth while. Buy a fuse holder, fuse and relay. See why below...
Run a whole new wire from the battery to the headunit, with the fuse mounted in-line near the battery, as close as possible.
This will minimise your dependancy on the factory wiring.

Does the Jag have a switched source of any sort with the ignition? anything, you only need the 1 switched source to turn the relay on/off to cut in/out the switched 12Volt (from the battery). Thus eleminating the need to use the factory harness.
I hope this make sence let me know if you have more questions. CHeers mate.

I mean, sure it has switched sources but i'll have to tap into a wire which i don't want to do on this particular car. I can actually probably check the gauge pannel too and see if which ones have a switched 12 volt, or the cig lighter, either i can probably tap into with out having to splice wires.

Thanks for the help, i figured i was on the right track but it's always good to get verification.
