Well I've been keeping track of my gas as of late. I want to make sure I can get the most out of my car and it engine in stock form. So far I have used three different gas companies:

Shell
BP
Exxon

The only constants in these factors are the condition of a couple things on my car: one bald tire, one bad wheel bearing, and bone stock engine.

So far these are the specs of the different gas companies I gave used. It will be in this format:

Brand
Type(87, 89, or 93)
Tire PSI
mods done
other notes

I will update this every couple of days, when I fill up, and before I fill up ill let yall know how many miles I got out of that tank. I reset my trip odometer every time I fill up so counts should be accurate. Lets begin.

To some people.... Gas is gas.

I personally use Chevron, Shell, 76, over anything unless I'm in need of gas.

I'm always weary about mom and pop fuels though.

Chevron
87
38psi on all 4. 215/45-17
CAI, 2 1/4 piping. Still get same mpg if I was stock.
21-23mpg all city, 28-29 mpg 80fwy/20city
I can only remember city driving for the needle to go on E it would run me 320-340 miles before my next fuel up.

Edit: 4cyl Automatic. ;)

Brand: BP
Type: 87
Tire PSI: 42psi cold
Miles: 400.8 miles
Mods: coilover sleeves, 17in wheels, 205/40/17 Capital UHPs.
miles on engine: 170k
Engine Type: F23 2.3 4cyl VTEC
Car: 2001 Accord EX 4dr

Other notes: when I pulled up to the gas pump, I was at 400.8 miles and the need was on E. Well on the beekeeper right above the E line. After i filled, found out i had about 2.5 gallons left of gas. So i probably could have gone another 20miles. Spirited driving on occasion. Speeds normally don't hit above 70-75mph. About half way thru its life. Tires are 205/40/17s.

Feel free to find out your own findings.

count ur blessings.... 1.5 hours minimum one way :coffee:

i usually use mobil... one in a while, i would use sheel or chevron, but those are typically more expensive than mobil...

as long as it's top tier gas, i'm fine... i avoid arco at all cost

Try the bible belt. The only thing here is Kum-N-go, Conoco, and mom & pop stores. I'm not a fan of either. I saw the best mileage out of MFAoil. Car ran the best on Chevron.

I've never seen Chevron as a good gas company honestly.

Just checked the miles. At half tank mark I was at 242 miles. Compared to using BP, I would be at 190-200 miles. So far that's a HUGE difference. Car seems to run smoother as well.

Damn, that's a long commute. That's like almost 200mi freeway drive in a day, no?

・Costco Gas (Kirkland brand)
・87 octane
・32Psi on 215/50R17 w/ 90% tread life
・20.6lbs wheels
・Stock V6 enginebay & stock exhausts, but w/ Bosch intake filter & spark plugs. Spare tire delete (weight reduction), and empty trunk cargo.
・Overall mpg: 19-spirited drive, 20~21-regular drive, 22-granma drive w/ shift change @ 2k rpm, 26-full freeway cruise from full to empty.

I'm currently having a mixed feeling about their quality. Their mpg is not bad at all, when I compare my run with Shell/Chevron/76.

Things that get me is the info I got, when I attended the "New owner's clinic" held by a Honda dealership in 2011. I was given a list of recommended gasoline company. See below:

Costco gas (Kirkland brand) is not on the list. They told me that best brand is Chevron & Shell. 76 is okay.

However on the other hand, my uncle in law who is a professional instructor pilot of helicoptor (who has seasoned knowledge in heavy machinery & a Mercedes enthusiast) is telling me that there is absolutely no need to worry about gas quality. This is something he has found / heard last year, and he puts Arco gas in all of his 5 Mercedes since then. (Haven't had a chance to ask him how/why exactly he thinks this way.)

To me, Costco gas (price beater in my area w/ 3% cash back) is very reliable but I'd hate to see if I'm hurting my car with their gas...

Any thoughts, infos will be appreciated.

IMO, tour uncle is wrong. You should worry about gas quality. Just as I stated above. I got an extra 40-50 miles just by switching gas brands. That's a huge difference to me man. I don't care what anyone says. I've put Walmart gas in my gf truck before and that stuff went done the drain in a hurry. Half a tank got burned up from two hours of driving(one hour to destination. Sat for 5hrs then another hour back). But I put Shell in it and I got a half tank from driving 3hrs one way.

Plus my car runs smoother on Shell gas too. Would you rather have your car run ok with some off brand gas because the gas is cheaper? Or have it run the best it can and get better gas mileage for the gas that's $.10 more a gallon?
