^^^And seriously how was it the cops fault? Did you read the officer's report? Cops chase these idiots keeping the public's safety in mind. Cops won't chase you on the freeway in the opposite direction will they? Only in the movies.
Most states have No Pursuit Laws in place since an avg of 1/3 of all police chases end in an accident or collision and subsequent litigation. Most officers have cameras that turn on as soon as they hit their lights which means they can usually get a vehicles LP and open an investigation without risking public safety. The US Supreme Court ruled unanimously in Lewis v Sacramento that the officers have the right to pursue, but the reality is that it is a dangerous action to take and for the most part only state troopers are permitted to because they receive special training and better handling cars for high speeds. (The chase in the video was done by a trooper, probably for that reason.) Add the increased likely-hood of an accident when trying to catch and detain a motorcycle on roads such as those, or any road for that matter, and the vehicle operators safety is between slim and nil. If I were an officer I wouldn't chase them, its not worth it.
I have to disagree with your statement Johnny. You fault the cop for that accident? The cop was trying to slow down someone who was clearly breaking the law and putting people in harms way. What if someone were to step out into the road when one of these bikers came by? There is no way to accurately calculate how much time you have to cross the road when a bike is doing 100 on a winding road.
Public menace? They were passing on double lines right before a turn, tailgating, and one bike was clocked at 108 mph OVER the speed limit! For as intelligent of a guy as you are, I am surprised by some of the things that you put on this board.
I fault the cop because he had the choice to chase or not, we have a saying in dispatch, you can outrun a vehicle, you can outrun a helicopter, but you can't outrun the radio. If he didn't close pursue the offender but rather maintained a very safe distance and marginal speed dispatch could patch through to other officers and other jurisdictions and close off the road. far enough ahead for the officer to cease his pursuit and allow for the subject to be apprehended, at the same time the officer should be gathering information to mount an investigation with.
I don't see them as a public menace because they're not likely to cause harm to others, they're probably going to hurt themselves more than someone who is, as most of the cars in that video appeared to be, going rather slowly and cautiously. Have you ever been in a lane on a highway when a motorcyclist lane splits you and another car at a high rate of speed, by the time your body can react they are already gone and most times all you get is a flinch. I'm not saying they're not blatantly breaking the law but that alone does not constitute an act of menace. They are reckless but imo i think they pose a danger to themselves more than to other motorists.
I put my opinions on this board, that you find me to be intelligent is appreciated but my way of thinking is not the same as many others and neither are my opinions.
