not really ive tryd some off ebay, and im not sure this shld be under urgent

Well i wanted to see what my options were as soon as possible. I want to leave the lights on because i personally like them but i want to know what my options are for making my lights i guess brighter or more visible to see so that i dont become the one at fault.

yes, wrong section.

Post a pic of the tail lights illuminated during the day, and one in the evening. Then we can actually see what we're talking about here, and not try to assess ambiguity.

yes, if youre rear ended you could be blamed for having tinted tail lights, regardless of how dark they are. it happened to one of my friends and you could see his fine during the day.

First off there is a difference between black out tails and Tinting.. as said before Spray Tint like mine from VHT (nightshade), if done right, is legal. If you go so dark that you cant see the lights in the day..your screwed. IF you do go so dark that light cannot pass through you can be at fault for the accident, kinda like not having Brake light bulbs that work... (btw cops give tickets for not having working bulbs) VHT states on their can do not spray more than 3 coats or light may not shine through. Now if they are spray tint and its too dark you can wetsand them back to stock color. My suggestion, dont use them... save the hassle from cops and saves you from getting rear ended and being at fault...

Then as for brighter lights.. Yes LEDs are bright..but they dont put out the same brightness that a regular bulb puts out... LED arent like HID's... I had LEDs in my tails and the only ones that are really worth a damn were the reverse lights.. Now other people may have had different experience but thats mine.. You could try some more expensive ones (mine were somewhere around 20 a pair) but it will be the Reflective buckets that give the light output...

Hope this helps a little

im pretty sure the cop is going to give, let's say, a middle aged man/woman, the benifit of the doubt when it comes down to it...hmm a teenager with black tail lights or the middle aged man/woman......hmmmmmmmm.....

even if it's legal they still have a good case saying, "legal or not, the light output is restricted". then you're at fault when you really weren't.

Let there be no more assumptions. In TN, the law is as states:
Actual laws regarding TN headlights and taillights...

Tenn. Code § 55-9-402
(b) (1) Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with two (2) red tail lamps and two (2) red stoplights on
the rear of the vehicle, and one (1) tail lamp and one (1) stoplight shall be on each side, except that
passenger cars manufactured or assembled prior to January 1, 1939, trucks manufactured
or assembled prior to January 1, 1968, and motorcycles and motor-driven cycles shall have at least one
(1) red tail lamp and one (1) red stoplight. No non-emergency vehicle shall operate or install emergency
flashing light systems such as strobe, wig-wag, or other flashing lights in tail light lamp, stoplight area, or
factory installed emergency flasher and backup light area; provided, however, that the foregoing
prohibition shall not apply to the utilization of a continuously flashing light system. For the purposes of
this part, "continuously flashing light system" means a brake light system in which the brake lamp pulses
rapidly for no more than five (5) seconds when the brake is applied, and then converts to a continuous
light as a normal brake lamp until the time that the brake is released.

(g) A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

sooo there you go. no more questions of legality in TN. As for other states.... it's pretty much the same.

So basically as long as i have working tailights im straight? I looked at the light output during the day and it is fine not as much restriction as i was expecting.
