Buddy Rich chews out his band

my grandfather, mikey sheen, was very close to buddy rich and what i hear from my uncle is that he was a great guy so hearing something like that makes me question if that's real or not... pretty crazy though :naughtyrun:

As a musician, i'll tell you that when it comes to business (in this case, the music) there is no friendship involved until the band gets it right. I had a band director that was a total asshat but I thank him for that now. I'm a better jazz musician because of his strict ways.

Well, I've been playing the drums for 20+ years.
And I must say, if any one of the musical directors who I've played for ever talked to the band like that, the performance would not improve but get worse.
I would be so nervous I couldn't enjoy the music.
Yes, you're there to do a job, but you should also enjoy it.
I can perform well when I'm under a little pressure or stress but not when I'm nervous. If you have a form of tunnel vision and strictly focused on every milk & cranny of the music, you (I) cannot enjoy it.

^Cool, What style of drumming do you play? I have no training but still bust out the bongos and djembe every now and then.
