OK so I just recently bough a 98 accord in good condition. All is running fine and I decide to replace the radiator hoses and water pump and timing belt for maintenance. Well since then the car likes to overheat very easily. If I turn the AC on the over heating doesn't happen. It appears that since changing everything the radiator fans aren't turning on when the car gets hot so thats why turning the AC on seems to help since it turns the radiator fans on. Any suggestions? I tried the coolant bleed screw by the thermostat and only antifreeze came out. I have tried replacing the coolant fan switch on the thermostat housing, replacing the temperature gauge sending unit in the head and replacing the other temperature sensor in the head also. Oil looks perfect, car drives fine. Ideas?

OK I forgot to mention yes I did replace the thermostat in an attempt to fix the problem and still over heating. I didn't get a honda one. It appears as thought the upper radiator hose is very hot! and the lower one is luke warm. So perhaps the coolant isn't circulating correctly. Hey you must be on both forums 6th gen and accord forum? But it didn't do this before I changed the coolant.

Yes, that is me. Haha, mirroring this thread on 2 different forums is going to make me dizzy!

Well, there's not much else to the cooling system that I'm aware of... you could possibly have a blockage or a radiator cap that's leaking (if the system doesn't pressurize, it doesn't cool as efficiently).

maybe try to drain and refill the coolant again? blast the heater to hot and take off the rad cap and let it bleed?

It's already been bled, but it wouldn't hurt to try it again. I do think this is a pressurizing issue if it's not the thermostat.

bjorkmae, with the car fully warm, does the heater blow hot air? If it's only cold or room temperature, I'd double check that thermostat. You can place it in a pan of boiling water and see if it opens up.

Have you noticed any small leaks? Dried fluid anywhere? Coolant dries to a calcium looking crumbly powder.

No dry fluid anywhere. No small leaks, I have checked. I have worked on my car and my friends cars for about 10 years but this one is stumping me. Its like the thermostat is stuck, but 2 in a row?

That's why it's weird, I'd try boiling it to verify. It's more work, but it's easier to rule out an easy fix before tossing money away at the expensive ones.

yea i had a previous car that had a over-heating problem and went thru like 6 thermostats.. seriously.. even a few from teh stealership before i got one that wasnt faulty... but sounds like it might just be a relay since you say your fans arent working...
