I have noticed when using my cell phone car charger, it only powers on when then ignition is turned on. Is it because it uses switched power only? I tried searching but didn't find anything. It would be a lot more convient if my phone could charge while my key is out of the ignition.

My brother's 01 Grand Am GT keeps power to the cig lighter all the time, I admit it is nice to have that.

you can get all those parts tht are in the kit at advanced auto parts or autozone. it is convenient to have a second one in the car... and to have one in the car tht has constant power. tho you do run the risk of draining you battery. im not an electrician, so im not sure its possible but if you could wire it so that it would only have power if something was plugged into it...

I have never heard of a car battery going dead from charging a cell phone. Every car i have driven previously to my accord had a constant power to the cigarette port. I would leave it charging overnight and even a couple days without driving with no problems. This is the only internet search i found about it.....scroll down and the posts are at the bottom.
