Just cleaned my throttle body. I had my dealer clean it at 40K b/c my pedal was sticking first thing on cold mornings. It was pretty nasty at 68K (see pic), so I'm wondering how good of a job they did. I'll see if I did a good job the next morning I start the car. Probably wishful thinking, but the car felt a little more responsive when I took it for a drive. It didn't shove me back in my seat, but it felt like the car jumped a little better with a lighter touch of the pedal. The job is pretty straightforward, but here are a few lessons learned:

-Have a new gasket and a good scraper ready. This would have been a quick job if I didn't have to scrape the old gasket off of both surfaces. It was no fun doing this with the TB still in the engine bay. If I do this again I might consider completely removing the TB.

-The TB may not come loose after you remove the bolts. I tapped it with a rubber mallet and then tapped it harder - nothing. I then put the handle of a screwdriver on one of the exposed corners of the TB and hit it (the screwdriver) with a hammer.

-The accel and cruise cables were a little tricky to get on/off. Just turn them down enough to get slack in the cables and the slide the end connector through each slot/opening.

your throttle body should not get that dirty after only 28k since the dealer did it before. Probably the dealer did not even do a thing but spray some cleaner down the TB without removing it, just so it unsticks the butterfly a little.

Lemon its very straight forward on how to get this off. Its not that hard.

Make sure u get all that left over old gasket off before u put the new one on or else it wont be air tight.

Lemon - I would have filled in the steps more, but I assumed there are already several DIY's on this since it's a common issue. I'll do it when I have some time.

HondaLuver - yeah, that's about what I figured after I saw how filthy the inside of the TB was only 28K miles after the dealer "cleaned" it.

Hmmm... I should take my intake tube off and take a peak. I just cleaned mine out maybe 8,000 miles ago, it may just be that dirty.

True, true. It only takes 5 minutes to make sure. Nothing like the way an engine run with a clean TB and IM though :D

True that, I wish it was easier to access. It always kills my back leaning over the car for more than 45min.

The outer side of the TB where the tube connects was relatively clean on mine. You need to remove the TB if you want to see the side I showed in the filthy pic.

Edit: I guess you could just flip down the plate and look inside the TB with a flashlight (vs. removing the TB).
