Just got a brand new Cobra radar/laser detector. I like how it is so far, but does anyone else have one? And how do you guys like your radar detectors? Like what were your personal benefits to having one?

haha yeah on the way to and from someone's house after buying it (25 minute drive on the freeway) I picked up a POP signal (instant on radar), a couple of K band and Ku bands, and I was lasered once. Lol crazy Wisconsin cops that have nothing to do but catch people speeding :aznrun:

^Hell yeah. Valentine and Escort are the way to go imo. I have a 9500i and I love it. The GPS aspect rocks... it works like a charm 60% of the time, every time. (sorry, couldn't resist the Anchorman quote lol)
I'm about to get the SmartCord so I don't have that coiled monstrosity running down the front of my console.

As for reason, I really didn't buy one so I could drive like an idiot. I just like exercising my right to know where these a-holes are sitting. Thank God I don't live in Virginia, where these are illegal. :ugh:

My Cobra XRS969 has intellimute pro so it shuts out all those unnecessary false alerts. I agree that GPS filtering is amazing, and I wish I had 400 bucks to spend on a detector...but you don't need that much money just to shut out false alarms. 90 bucks and I haven't had a single false alarm yet. It also alerts you of incoming emergency vehicles, upcoming trains, and upcoming road hazards (accident, construction, etc).

I dunno...it works for me I guess

PS nice anchorman quote :)

I love/hate my radar. If I'm cruising around an area with a lot of stores I just shut it off because it gets fukn annoying. Although it CAN save you some money, DONT PUT ALL YOUR FAITH IN IT!!!!!

Most POS pigs use the "instant on" type radar, so you cant pick them up until its too late. if theres a few other cars in front of you, and they get clocked, you'll pick up the signal, but only for a second or two, so BE CAREFUL.

I've only gotten 1 ticket since I bought my detector 2 years ago. Although I lost 250 bucks (83 in a 65), it has saved me at least 20 times, so probably in the neighborhood of about 5k lol. Not only good for speeding, but also burn cruising, booze cruising, you know, whatever you're into haha

haha yeah I know about those instant on radars. Those are the POP signals I mentioned earlier. I picked one up about 10 minutes after I installed the thing! LUCKY ME.
