From what I've read, VTEC on the V6 engages at about 3500 RPMs and on the 4cyl it's much higher but not at a standard RPM. It's usually around where the torq peaks but differs depending upon RPM's, load, throttle position... etc

i have an indicator light wired inline with the signal that turns on vtec.

90% of the time it will go on BEFORE 3k.

not sure about the v6, but i know in my car you CANNOT "feel" it kick in at all.

in the dyno graph i posted it appears that vtec kicks in around 3700-3800 rpms (where the torque starts going back up)

with less throttle vtec will engage sooner to try and fill in that dip (and get you better gas mileage).

if honda wanted vtec (on the f23) to give top end power then it would make sense for it to engage at about 4.5k

but our motor was designed for fuel efficiency, so it engages much lower to provide moer torque for every day driving.
