In MN, small shops can dump up to 600 gallons a year in the sanitary sewer, so you'll be fine pouring it down the sink, I do.
You CANNOT, however, pour it down the storm drain in the street, corn fields, small child's sippy cup, doggy water dish, etc. Storm drains and the sanitary sewer are different, storm drains simply drain into ponds, rivers, ditches, etc. Sanitary sewer is brought to a sewage plant where it is removed from the water.
