Well, now we know that portion of the alternator is good.

You could try a can of seafoam in the fuel to clean up the injectors but I'd change wires and just keep them regardless of the outcome. That way you won't have to worry about that portion for a long time.

Its gotta be wires or fuel at this point.

Yeah I guess that's true. They're not too expensive and it's nice peace of mind knowing they're good.

I'm going to buy a wireset and some fuel injector cleaner for my next tank. Luckily it's already low so I can add it in and fill up right away :)

Will it hurt anything if I drive it to a gas station while it's misfiring? There's one about a mile from my place.

my bad, I missed,

"Pull fuel rail up with injectors in it and watch them spray?"

Yeah, pretty much. I think the 4cyl has 'clips' from the rail to the injectors to hold them in?

So you don't need the rail locked down to keep the injectors locked with fuel pressure, right?

from what I experienced when loosening the fuel rail the other day, there are no clips. I forgot to relieve presure from fuel system before loosening up the fuel rail, and the injectors immediately pushed themselves out and I could smell gas, so I quick pushed them back in.

I don't think they'd stay in if the fuel rail was pulled out and pressurized.

maybe this will help to confirm what I think.

Parts 2, 3, and 21 are cushion rings and O-rings...no clips.

damn, I must be thinking of another car!

Ok, then pull the fuel pump fuse first, pressure should drop, so have someone else crank the car while you listen to each injector.

use a mechanics stethoscope, see if the dead cylinder sounds any different. Also swap it, IIRC #1 is dead? So swap #1 with #2, clear the codes, run it until the MIL comes back, recheck the codes. If the code moves, you found the problem. Just write an 'X' on the one you thinking might be dead, before you move it, so you don't grab the wrong one after the swap.

Good call! You can even do only half of this if you find you don't have access to a mechanics stethoscope and still maybe come up with your issue! Have you purchased wires yet?

Mechanics stethoscopes are cheap, but if you can't find one, use your hand. Quite a bit of sound info will travel through your fingers.

That's a great idea! I've heard using a screwdriver can help to hear the injectors too. Maybe I'll try that. I can;t believe I haven't though about swapping injectors...hopefully that will help me find my problem.

Yes, I got some new wires, they just came today.

I'm going to try wires and injector swapping tomorrow...I'll let you know how it goes.

I guess I should have said this, you can listen to injectors with them in, with them out the tips should get damp.
