yeah i should of learn more about dSLR before i bought the lenses. when you buy the lense, the lenses will also come with EF, EF-S, IS, L, etc. it's basically different kind of lense that will help make your picture a better quality. but yes, i recommend getting the 50mm f/1.8 because it takes great picture. UV filter for me, just add contrast and also let the dust or water droplet away from my lense. the lens hood keeps the sunray away from my lense. happens a lot to me.

add in a 52mm UV filter along with a lense hood and you're good to go. i think it looks weird with that lense only. looks cheap. it is cheap but good (not best) quality. haha. i have flower hood lens on all my lenses.
uv filter = waste
just adds more glare, a hood is enough protection
