Do Accord V6 Autos Shift Lazy?

I have a 2001 V6 auto Accord, with about 50k.

Trans fluid changed with sythetic at the dealer recently.

The car is fairly new to me, and shifts fine if drive aggresively. Downshifts
quickly if you gun it.

But, around town, driving at a leisurely pace, I notice the transmission is
lazy, for lack of a better term.

It holds onto the gear longer than I would like, then slowly goes into the
next higher gear. By comparison, my Mazda 6 4spd auto drops into the next
higher gear as soon as you let up on the gas when accelerating ... no delay
whatsoever in upshifting.

I'm aware of the premature failure rate of V6 equipped transmissions.
I'm just wondering if my car is typical of how these cars shift, or is it an
indication of a major issue? The car never jerks, never hesitates, nor does
it slip ... it just seems slow to respond to minor inputs with the gas pedal.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing is wrong except the way the V6 trans was built. What you're experienciing is normal. Do regular drain and fills and don't drive like like a retard and it just may last. It's a crapshoot as to whether you get a good one or bad one. Mine was still running strong at 132k miles.

I would keep it in D3 on roads that were 45 or less so it wouldn't needlessly shift into 4th. Search the site for other tips on attempting to make it last.

EDIT: I drained & refilled every 6,000 miles.

Our trannys are weak and aren't a performance model so what your saying sounds perfectly normal to me. Happens to me all the time. Just keep draining and filling your fluid every 10k and you should be good. The new Honda ATF-DW1 seems to reduce the amount of lag in our trannys a good amount.

Mine does something similar on the highway, but only with cruise on. I'll be going along and start going up a steep hill and the CC will kick it up but once ive reached the top, itll hold that higher rev for a minute then shift. It doesnt sound good but its not a hard shift though.

This does remind though, I need to drain and fill my ATF....

Thanks for the replies ... good to know it is showing normal shift patterns for this car.

First thing I did was a drain and fill at the Honda dealership.

Hopefully, I'm good to go for another 5k or so.
