(Update) 10-17-14 Okay (update) Unfortunately I live in California. And unless I up and move out of state I am not going to be able to build a street legal G23. So I am wondering who has built a F23a1 turbo that's also legal in California that runs 300 HP not just eBay turbo. I have looked through the threads but unfortunately its hard to tell who is from where.

I have to use my car for the next 3 months as a computer then I plan on tearing it down and doing everything at once.

I'd still like to shoot for 300 HP as my original goal. Just seeing if its at all possible to be legal and run these #s

If not I'll have to build a separate engine and swap after smog. UGH!!
Thanks again guys.

( Original) Hey guys, I'm new to 6th gen. I have a 99 Accord looking to change over to a track and weekend car.
Okay here it goes, I am getting stuff ready for a Turbo G 23 build. I have a lot to change to the car as it is a f23a1 auto. I'm changing to a manual during this build as well (F23). I have done lots of research, but there are a ton of conflicting stories. First off I'll set my goals. I'm looking to get 300-350 hp out of it. If anyone has a similar G23 I would like to hear how its set up. I'm also interested to find out what company makes the best forged internals for the f23a1 bottom end. Do most people replace the crank? Piston rods? Or just the K20's forged pistons?

Side note would a H22 transmission have any problem 300-350?

I'll have a ton more Qs for you guys as well just trying to get my parts shopping list together.
Thanks

u'd prob want lower compression pistons and not the K20s if u want to boost

and why H22 tranny on a boosted car? boosted car + long gearing is the best combo... stick to a f23 manual tranny

Thanks for the reply. Yea good to know. I'll stick to the f23 manual then. Most threads I've read are switching to the h22.
To get a g23 to 350hp boosted around what compression ratio would be my goal?

The h22 has smaller gears and the h22 transmissions arent as strong as the f23 trannys from what I hear. Also since you are boosting your stock pistons should be just fine. You will likely want to get new piston rings though and use forged rods made for the f23 although those are expensive. The car is going to be fast though when you are done

Leave the crankshaft alone, the k20 pistons will give you high compression and you want low compression so keep your stock pistons. For those hp numbers you will want to used forged rods for the f23 which I believe are made by brian cower and/or eagle but I could be wrong. This project will be a lot of work but if you have the time it will be worth it

Thanks guys, I'll do some checking into the rods and rings so with a stock f23a1 pistons just on the compression calculator its 8.87:1 which I know is just a ball park figure. if I do run stock pistons and upgrade ring and arms is it too much to try for 15-20 lbs of boost?
Also anyone have a turbo kit on a g23 that works better for this type of setup? Just seeing what's out there or why others have done.
Thanks
